SAM metallekspander on terasest valmistatud kinnituselement, mille alushülss on kruvi jaoks sisekeermetega. Metallekspander tõmmatakse kokku ja selle keskosa ekspandeerub, mille juures neli jalga painduvad tagasi. Kandevõime on kõrge, kuna jalad jagavad rõhu suurel pinnal ära. Montaažitööriistad tagavad, et saadakse korrektne ekspandeerumine. Metallekspandriga SAM saab püsiva keermestatud kinnituspunkti. Ekspander on konstrueeritud nii, et püsib korralikult paigal isegi siis, kui kruvi on välja võetud.
