Knauf Rotband is designed for manual application with a trowel or hawk. MP75L has a finer formulation and special additives for machine pumping. If needed, MP75L can also be applied by hand, but this reduces its cost-effectiveness.
What substrates are suitable for Knauf MP75L?
MP75L is applied to all standard solid substrates: brick masonry (ceramic, silicate and hollow brick), concrete, cement plaster, tongue-and-groove partition blocks. Aerated concrete and foam blocks require pre-priming with a deep-penetration primer (e.g. Knauf Tiefengrund). The substrate must be clean of dust, grease and flaking layers, and must have a moisture content not exceeding 3%.
What is the permitted layer thickness of Knauf MP75L?
On walls: minimum 8 mm, maximum 50 mm in a single pass. On ceilings: 8–15 mm. If a wall layer exceeding 50 mm is required, it is applied in two stages — the second coat only after the first has fully dried. Wood and metal surfaces — application of MP75L is not permitted.

Technically — yes. MP75L can be applied by hand with a trowel and hawk, but this significantly reduces productivity and the economic benefit of using this particular compound. Substrate and air temperature: from +5 to +30°C during application and for 3 days afterwards until fully set. Do not apply to frozen substrates, in direct sunlight or draughts — this causes uneven drying and cracking. Optimal conditions: +15–20°C, air humidity 50–60%, moderate ventilation without draughts.
How many days before painting or wallpapering after MP75L?
MP75L dries fully in approximately 7 days at a 10 mm layer thickness and +20°C. Greater thickness increases the drying time proportionally. Before painting or wallpapering, the surface must be completely dry and white (no dark damp patches). Drying can be accelerated by moderate ventilation, but not by heat guns — rapid heating causes cracking.
How should Knauf MP75L bags be stored correctly?
Store in a dry enclosed space on pallets, protected from moisture and direct precipitation. Do not store outdoors without cover. Shelf life in undamaged packaging is 6 months from the date of manufacture. An opened bag should be tightly re-tied and used as soon as possible, as gypsum actively absorbs moisture from the air, reducing the strength and pot life of the mix. Storage temperature: not below +5°C.
Is Knauf MP75L safe for health?
Yes — the compound is made from natural gypsum and contains no substances harmful to human health. It releases no toxins after hardening. The colour of the dry mix can vary from white to grey and even pinkish — this is due to natural impurities in the gypsum rock and does not affect performance. When working, protective gloves and goggles are recommended; avoid inhaling dust when mixing.
Can Knauf MP75L be used in a bathroom or kitchen?
Yes, with limitations. MP75L is suitable for kitchens and bathrooms provided the finish coat provides protection against constant moisture: moisture-resistant paint, ceramic tiles with waterproof adhesive or another protective coating.
